CULTURE VULTURE: TWIGGY
Singer and Sixties icon Twiggy is mad about The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album,
The Wizard Of Oz and Auguste Rodin's The Kiss
What is your favourite
album?
It has to be Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the
Beatles because of it's huge impact when it came out in 1967. Wherever I
went in London - whether to shops, businesses or homes - it was playing.
It was just so musically innovative.
What is your favourite
book?
Tess Of The D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. It's beautifully
written, very romantic and it takes you to another world. I really think
that it's the perfect book.
What is your favourite
piece of art?
I love The Kiss by Auguste Rodin. The sculpture is at Tate
Britain and every time I touch it, it touches my soul.
What is your favourite
film?
The Wizard Of Oz. I first saw it when I was eight, but I left
the cinema screaming because I was so terrified by the flying monkeys. But
since then I've realised that it's the most magical, innovative film, and
it still works well today even though it was released in 1939. Every
generation loves it. It's truly timeless, and Judy Garland's performance
is spellbinding.
What is your favourite
show?
The Tony Award winning Broadway musical Nine by Maury Yeston.
It is about a film director who is contracted to write a screenplay. But a
severe case of writer's block forces him to examine his past relationships
- and makes him realise that he has spent his whole life acting like a
nine-year-old. The show just blew me away - it was so beautifully staged
and performed.
