Celebrity Secrets
by Eileen Leahy
Twiggy,
55, was the face of the swinging 60s. How does she still look so good? She
tells us about all-over massages, tap-dancing lessons and her new range of
beauty products
What beauty products do you
swear by?
Since I started
developing my own range three years ago, I now only use products from that
as I know exactly what goes into them and that they work! The Reviving
Face Mask is great as it works in just 3-4 minutes, instead of the usual
10-15. I also love the Eye Serum, as it de-puffs instantly.
What's your top
beauty tip?
To moisturise. I also think it's
incredibly important to keep your skin clean - especially because of all
the pollution and harmful UV rays it has to battle against. No matter how
late I go to bed I'll always take off my make-up so my skin can
breathe.
What perfume do
you wear for daytime and evening?
I'm one of those people that wears
quite a lot as I love trying out new ones. My favourites include Shalimar
by Guerlain, and Ghost The Fragrance.
Do you do much
exercise?
As much as I can fit in. If I'm
rehearsing for a play or something I'll really concentrate on going to the
gym in order to improve my stamina, otherwise I won't be that strict about
it. I'll often go swimming or tap dancing and I do Pilates whenever I
can.
Do you diet?
Not really, although I believe
eating lots of fresh, organic, seasonal produce makes for a healthier
lifestyle. I shy away from frozen or ready meals.
What do you do to
pamper yourself?
I love to have a whole body
massage with lots of essential oils. The masseur I see on a regular basis
has taught me a lot about the power of these oils and, as a result, I've
used plenty in my new range.
Would you consider
having plastic surgery?
We all have days when we think 'aagggh,
look at me', but I haven't really thought about it. Maybe in the future,
but I'd never have Botox done. It's like pure poison being injected into
your skin.
Which other women
do you consider to be beautiful?
I think Nastassja Kinski, Isabella
Rossellini and Greta Garbo are all amazing, and I also think Kate Moss
and Scarlett Johansson are stunning. None of
them are classic beauties, but they each possess
something magical.
Who is your favourite
designer?
don't have one favourite. I think John Galliano is
extraordinary and I also really admire Stella McCartney's
work. I don't wear that much high fashion as I
feel guilty spending so much money.
Which high street shops do
you visit?
Zara, TopShop
and H&M are all great. The latter does
really well-cut trousers - which is good news
for me as I spend my life in them.
What has been your most
successful outfit
and where did you wear it?
It has to be my black tuxedo. It's absolutely
brilliant because you can dress it up with a
bustier or dress it down by wearing a T-shirt
underneath and some flat shoes.
What has been the worst
outfit you've
worn?
I'm pretty strict
with myself when it comes to experimenting, so I
don't tend to make many mistakes. My husband
is also very good at telling me what he
thinks looks good and not so good.
How many handbags and pairs
of shoes do you own?
I'm a total shoe freak - I think shoe shops
call out to me! I simply love high heels but my
favourites are a pair of men's cream and brown
brogues I bought in LA some years ago. They
remind me of the kind of thing my hero
Fred Astaire would wear.
Twiggy's new range of
beauty products is on sale now at selected Asda stores. Prices start from
£5.49. For more information and stockist details, call 0500 100055.
